Unit Fundraising

Unit Participation in the Conquistador Council Popcorn Fundraiser provides opportunity for Scouts to Earn Their Own Way. This helps to ensure that each Scout realizes the value of hard work and how to budget and handle their own resources, to be Thrifty. The Scouting Unit engages their community to support their scouting program by purchasing popcorn. The Conquistador Council partners with Trails End to supply the product to sell, design an incentive and commission program to engage, motivate and recognize Scout’s efforts. The partnership also provides support with ordering, product replacement, and training families.

Ways to sell

TAKE ORDER

Selling in the Take Order portion allows Scouts to visit neighbors, family members, friends and parent’s co-workers to request support of their goals and program. The Scout collects the order from the customer and then delivers that product weeks later. Some units collect money upfront and other collect upon delivery. This sales method allows a Scout to continue to build relationships throughout their community to support him achieving his goals.

This sales method brings the product to the customer instantly. The selection available for this method is limited and can be strictly limited based on sales success in previous years. Scout units work with local businesses to set up a sales booth in the front of grocery stores, sporting goods stores, hardware stores, religious centers and other places of high traffic. This method can help support the units big long-term plans with the help of all families. Alternatively, the unit can divide out the commissions to those Scouts who participate to help them achieve their goals.

SHOW AND SELL

This method a mashup of Take Order and Show & Sell. Scouts check out product from unit leaders to go sell to customers throughout the community. The Scout is able to collect money and distribute product right away, which eases the burden of ordering product and then collecting money afterwards.

Dates

The 2020 Popcorn sale will be going through a timeline change this fall. We are currently looking at 2 options – Starting in mid September with Show and Sell and Take Order running concurrently – and ending this sale at the end of October with delivery last weekend of November. Or, starting in October with both sales and ending late November and with Take Order Delivery first week of December.

How do I get them?

For the Show and Sell and Show and Deliver portion of the sale, Units will order product that will be counted in full cases. This product will be checked out to Units to sell throughout the timeline of the sale. At the end of the Show and Sell portion, Units will settle with any unsold product and money due for the sold amount. If the Unit would like to keep the product that is unsold and continue to sell it, then they can do so.

For Take Order portion of the sale, the Units will compile a list of sales from all of their individual Scout forms / sales. Then the Units will create an order for product. This product will be counted individually and not by the case. Upon pickup of this product, the Unit will pay the amount due. Then the Scouts will deliver to their customers.

For Online portion of the sale, neither the Unit or the Scout has to collect money or deliver product. This is handled by Trails End on our behalf.

Camp Card Sales

The Conquistador Council discount card (Camp Card) fundraiser is an opportunity for Scouts to earn money to achieve their goals in their Unit. These cards have discounts from businesses in their home communities like restaurants, hardware stores, sporting good stores, and more. These businesses have agreed to discount some of their product or purchase while presenting our card to help support the Scout’s goals.

These cards are virtually no risk to sell. As long as the unit does not return broken cards upon reconciliation, the Unit will earn 50% commission of cards sold.

The District Executive staff can help coordinate with your Unit leaders to assist in getting cards to you to sell.

Show and Sell – coordinate with businesses with high traffic to set up in front of their business location. If you are able to schedule with the business, make sure you are gracious in all of your communication. Set up outside their door, but do not block the entrance or exit doors. Make sure to collect your trash and coordinate with management on how to dispose of your trash. Use this opportunity to show a bit about your Units program. Show off pictures and potential videos of your program experience. The customers will be more likely to support if they can see pictures of what your unit is doing. This could also be an opportunity to recruit new families!

Show and Deliver – make sure that your Scout does not go to sell alone. Bring along a parent or fellow Scout so that they are never alone. Bring an extra Take Order form so that the customer can see other product that is available that the Scout may not have at that time.

Take Order – along with Show and Deliver, never sell alone. Use Take Order forms from previous years to continue to utilize known supportive customers. Encourage the Scout to share their sales goal, or their program goal they are looking to accomplish. This will make it easier for a customer relate to the Scout, rather than just buying popcorn.

Online – Encourage your Scout to get creative with their sales pitch and profile. Make sure to keep contact information for your customers so they can be thanked and updated on the adventures throughout the year.
