BALOO Training Success at Wehinahpay Mountain Camp

This past weekend's Basic Adult Leader Outdoor Orientation (BALOO) training was an adventure worthy of any Scout!

Originally scheduled to be held at Camp Jim Murray in Hobbs, New Mexico, the trainers had to make a swift decision when bad weather threatened. With severe conditions, including tornado warnings on the horizon, the team chose to relocate the training to Wehinahpay Mountain Camp.

Despite the change in venue and the challenges posed by unpredictable weather, including a close encounter with a tornado and narrowly missing snowfall, the dedication of both trainers and participants shone through. While a few Scouters were unable to attend due to the relocation, we were thrilled to welcome three new BALOO-trained leaders.

BALOO is a critical training course for Cub Scout leaders. It equips them with the skills needed to safely plan and execute fun and exciting outdoor adventures. These newly trained leaders have committed to ensuring that their Scouts experience the best that outdoor Scouting has to offer.

We are incredibly grateful to the trainers and participants for their adaptability and commitment to the cause. Every Scout deserves a trained leader, and the perseverance of this group highlights just how dedicated our Scouting community is.

Thank you for braving the elements and making sure the adventure continues for our Cub Scouts!

Check the council calendar of events for our next training opportunity.
