As we gather with loved ones this Thanksgiving, I want to take a moment to reflect on the many blessings we’ve experienced this year in the Conquistador Council, Boy Scouts of America.
This Thanksgiving also marks a personal milestone for me—completing my first year as your Scout Executive and my first year in the beautiful state of New Mexico.
It has been an incredible journey filled with new experiences, wonderful people, and the privilege of serving a council so rich in history and spirit. I am deeply thankful to call this community my home and to share in the mission of Scouting with all of you.
2024 has been a remarkable year for the Conquistador Council. Our summer camp was a resounding success, creating unforgettable memories and lifelong skills for our Scouts. Our membership has grown by more than 10% compared to last year—a testament to the vitality of our programs and the enthusiasm of our families. We’ve welcomed new members to our board of directors, strengthening our leadership and expanding our capacity to serve.
Every month, our virtual roundtables bring together dedicated volunteers to share ideas and resources, showcasing the power of collaboration. And for the first time in years, we’ve maintained a full team of professional staff—all passionate individuals committed to the mission of Scouting.
Above all, I am profoundly thankful for you—our volunteers, families, and Scouts—who breathe life into our council. Your dedication ensures that the values and adventures of Scouting continue to shape young people into leaders of character.
Looking ahead, I am filled with excitement for what’s to come. Next year, we will celebrate the centennial of the Conquistador Council—a milestone that honors 100 years of service, adventure, and character-building in Southeast New Mexico. It will be a year of reflection, celebration, and looking to the future, and I can’t wait to share it with all of you.
As we reflect on this year’s blessings, let’s remember the transformative power of Scouting and the shared commitment that binds us together. May your Thanksgiving be filled with joy, love, and a renewed spirit for the journey ahead.
Thank you for all you do for Scouting and for the Conquistador Council.
Happy Thanksgiving!
