Troop 300’s Adventure at Wehinapay Mountain Camp: A Weekend of Service and Fun

This past weekend, Troop 300 embarked on an unforgettable journey to Wehinapay Mountain Camp, nestled in the serene embrace of the mountains. The scouts were on a mission to assist Ranger Brian in preparing the camp for the upcoming summer season, and their enthusiasm and dedication made it a resounding success.

A Weekend of Hard Work and Service

The scouts arrived at Wehinapay Mountain Camp early Saturday morning, greeted by the crisp, cool mountain air—a refreshing change from the heat of the city. Ranger Brian welcomed the troop and laid out the tasks that needed to be accomplished to get the camp ready for summer.

Setting Up Camp

One of the primary tasks was to move all 179 canvas tents to their designated campsites. It was no small feat, but Troop 300 tackled the job with remarkable teamwork and efficiency. The scouts formed a well-organized assembly line, passing the heavy tents from one scout to the next, ensuring that each tent reached its proper location. By midday, all tents were set up, creating a picturesque campsite ready for future campers.

Sprucing Up the Lake Lodge

After a hearty lunch, the troop turned their attention to the Lake Lodge. The scouts rolled up their sleeves and got to work, sweeping, scrubbing, and polishing the lodge until it gleamed. The transformation was incredible, and the Lake Lodge now stands ready to welcome campers for meals, gatherings, and activities.

Ensuring a Great Fishing Experience

No camp experience is complete without some time spent fishing, and Troop 300 made sure that the lake’s fish population was ready for eager campers. The scouts checked the fishing areas, cleaned up the surroundings, and even did some fishing to ensure the fish were biting. Their efforts will undoubtedly lead to countless joyful moments for future campers as they cast their lines and reel in their catches.

Enjoying the Cool Mountain Weather

Of course, it wasn’t all work and no play. The cool mountain weather provided the perfect backdrop for the scouts to enjoy some well-deserved downtime. They explored the beautiful trails around the camp, shared stories around the campfire, and marveled at the starry night sky—an experience that’s hard to come by in the city.
